At Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, we believe that keeping parents informed is essential to fostering a strong school community. With so many activities, events, and updates happening throughout the year, we’ve created several key resources to ensure you always have access to the information you need. Below is a guide to help you stay informed about what’s happening in your child’s school, from weekly updates to important long-term plans.
One of the most reliable sources of information is our Weekly Laker Bulletin, which is sent out to all families. This bulletin is broken down by grade levels, offering relevant updates, links to calendars, and information about upcoming events and registration. It’s a great resource to help families stay on top of what’s happening in the school community. We strongly encourage all families to review this bulletin regularly to stay informed about any changes or updates.
For information beyond the current week, parents should refer to our OLL School Google Calendar. This calendar is regularly updated with important school dates and events. While most dates listed are confirmed, there may be instances when times or dates are still tentative. If you don’t see an event on the calendar, it likely means we are still finalizing the details. Checking the Google Calendar frequently is a great way to plan ahead for the school year.
For additional resources such as uniform guidelines, handbooks, and other relevant school policies, we encourage you to visit the Current Families page on our school website. This page is designed to provide families with easy access to important documents and forms they may need throughout the year.
Parents looking for athletic updates, schedules, or guidelines can visit our dedicated Athletics page. This page is your go-to source for everything related to school sports, from game schedules to important announcements from coaches and the Athletic Director.
While our social media pages are a great way to showcase our school’s mission and achievements, we encourage families not to rely on social media for consistent updates on school events. Social media is primarily used as a marketing tool and for sharing general news about our school. For the most accurate and timely information, refer to our Weekly Bulletin, the OLL School Google Calendar, or the appropriate section of our website.
For parents of students in grades PK-4, expect more direct communication from teachers. Class Dojo is the primary form of communication used by our elementary teachers to share classroom updates, assignments, and other important information. This allows parents to stay closely connected to their child’s progress and daily activities.
As students grow older, we gradually transition from teacher-parent communication to a model where students take more responsibility for relaying information to their families. For students in grades 5-8, teachers will still send updates to parents, but students will increasingly be responsible for bringing information home.
By the time students reach grades 9-12, they are expected to manage communication about their school work more independently. Parents are encouraged to stay engaged by following along in Google Classroom, regularly checking their child’s progress in the FACTS gradebook, and reviewing course syllabi. Parent-teacher conferences are also an excellent opportunity to get detailed insights into your child’s performance.
8. Emergency AnnouncementsIn the event of special announcements or emergencies, parents may be notified via text message or phone call. Additionally, 6th-12th grade parents will receive automated texts or calls if their child is tardy or absent without an excuse, ensuring that you’re always informed when important situations arise.
A Strong Partnership for SuccessAt Our Lady of the Lakes, we are committed to maintaining clear and open communication with our families. By utilizing these resources and staying connected, you can ensure that your child’s school experience is positive and well-supported. Together, we can create an environment where all students thrive, both academically and spiritually.
Thank you for your partnership in helping make Our Lady of the Lakes a strong, informed, and vibrant school community!
